Feeding the Pheonix

She looked up, shading her eyes
From the monstrous selfness of it all
And felt her breath being taken away.
And knew it was drawn away-
Draining the blood from the cow's neck-
Scraping the liquidy sweet residue from a baby's lips,
Crying out to it all, give it back
But the most dangerous part
Is catching your breath. You're liable to miss it
A small percentage, a millionth of a millionth
Allow the breath to leave while they expand
But that is enough, it is so much.
